Which ultrasound procedures do we offer?
Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE):
The most common form of cardiac ultrasound examination. The ultrasound probe is placed on the outside of the chest and provides real-time images of the heart chambers, valves, and pumping function.
Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE):
A small ultrasound probe is inserted through the esophagus to obtain particularly detailed images of the heart valves and atria – for example, to investigate blood clots. The procedure is performed under light sedation.
Stress echocardiography/exercise ECG:
Combines ultrasound with physical or pharmacological stress to assess heart function under exertion – important when coronary artery disease is suspected and a stress ECG alone is insufficient.
Carotid and vascular duplex sonography:
Examine the carotid arteries for narrowing or deposits that can increase the risk of stroke and heart attack.
Preparation:
No special preparation is needed for TTE and vascular ultrasound. For a TEE, you should come fasting and should not drive yourself on the same day due to the sedation.
Results:
The images are usually evaluated directly during the examination and discussed afterwards.
